The dramatic story of a Southern Pacific derailment and deadly toxic spill on the railroad's main line between California & Oregon. The derailment sent tanker cars into the scenic Upper Sacramento River, a prized trout fishery. It destroyed all life in 38 mile stretch of river and released a poisonous cloud which sickened inhabitants in the downstream railroad town of Dunsmuir. The program documents the slow recovery of the river while examining the ever-present possibility of a deadly re-occurance.
